Easter Walking Festival - booking by 19th March

"Announcing a new Meetup for New and Not So New In Dublin! What: Easter Walking Festival - booking by 19th March When: Friday, April 2, 2010 9:00 AM Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.) ... MoreHi Everyone, i'd like to have a good few people for this event to take place, before deciding whether to leave it open or not, hence the reason for this reminder. please read ALL the details below & update your rsvp's accordingly if you are interested. regards maria Description: Go Ireland is pleased to announce its Easter Walking Weekend based in Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry. Walk on some of the best climbs/rambles in the country, while you stay in quality accommodation in the seaside village of Glenbeigh. Relax and unwind in Kerry and let Go Ireland organise everything while you take walks on the wild side! >> BOOK THIS TOUR FRIDAY 2 APRIL 2010 9.00 p.m. Registration and welcome briefing/photo presentation with Seán Ó Súilleabháin at the Kerry Ocean Lodge, Glenbeigh. SATURDAY 3 APRIL 2010 Walk A: Carrauntoohil (1039m) Distance: (depending on route) 12km/7.5miles Ascent: up to 1,150m/3,750ft Blow away the effects of over-indulgence on a climb onto Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain (1039m). This is for experienced climbers. The ascent may be from the north via Coomcallee/The Hag’s Glen, and up via the Eagle’s Nest (Cummeennoughter) and O’Shea’s Gully. An alternative ascent is over Caher (1001m), a (partial) circuit of Coomloughra Glen. Weather and the opportunity for views will dictate the routes up and down. Walk B: Kerry Way – Seefin Circuit Distance: 12km/7.5miles Ascent: 330m/1,100ft We can experience the magnificent scenery described recently by Christopher Somerville in the Irish Independent’s ‘Walk of the Week’ – views of Dingle Bay, the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Castlemaine Harbour, indeed much of mid-Kerry. Starting and finishing the walk in Glenbeigh keeps it simple, a way of reserving energy for the coming evening. SUNDAY 4 APRIL 2010 Walk A: Mangerton Mountain Distance: (depending on route) up to 15km/9.5miles Ascent: up to 1,040m/3,400ft There is ample scope for tailoring a climb to suit the day and the weather. A full circuit of the dramatic Glenacappul (the Horse’s Glen) to the east of the Killarney National Park could stretch those in the humour for it. A trip up Mangerton on its own and a walk down through the woods of Muckross would allow for easy and quick repair to a local hostelry! Let’s see. Walk B – The Devil’s Punch Bowl Distance: 7km/4.5 miles to 10.5km/6.5miles Ascent: 530m/1,750 ft. The bridle path up to and down from the Devil’s Punch Bowl allows for a leisurely walk, all the time enjoying splendid views over Killarney’s lakes. An optional walk through Muckross Wood could allow us to join, chase or beat colleagues from Walk A to a welcoming hostelry. MONDAY 5 APRIL 2010 Departure after a hearty Irish breakfast Price €230 per person sharing for 3 Night Package at The Towers Hotel, Glenbeigh or any of the Guesthouses in the village. (Based on a minimum of 2 people) Accommodation is based on a twin/double-sharing basis. A limited number of single rooms are available at a supplement of €20 per night. For those willing to share, we will do our utmost to match solo walkers. Closing Date for Bookings: 19th March 2010 Price includes: • 3 Nights' B&B in The Towers Hotel, Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry • 3 Full Irish breakfasts • 2 pack lunches • Choice of superb A or B walks on 2 days • Coach/minibus transfers to walks each day. • Experienced local walking guides. • Welcome briefing and photo presentation. Equipment: For all grades of walks, you will need warm and waterproof clothing, including a hat, gloves and spare clothing. For both walks, mountain boots with a well cleated sole (to prevent slipping) and support (for the ankles) are essential. Bring along a flask and lunch box in a small rucksack, which can hold your spare clothing. Please note that jeans are not suitable (no insulation value when wet) – warm tracksuit bottoms would be much better. Don't forget to bring along musical instruments - useful even for the coach transfers!! Note: The organisers/guides reserve the right to classify walkers on the basis of experience and suitability of equipment. Guides may have to alter the walks to allow for weather or other factors but this will be done only as a last resort. Address: Glenbeigh, Co.
